Hermanus beaches
Hermanus beaches are a sunworshipper's paradise. The sands are soft and white, the sea crisp and inviting, the rolling surf crashing to the shore with the universal call that beachgoers the world over know so well.
Sometimes described by some as the greatest of all Hermanus's attractions, the beachlover is spoilt for choice. Stunning rock-protected coves or perhaps you'd prefer the long expanses of sandy beach, perfect for safe swimming and strolling. There are also tidal pools provide, which safe bathing and are perfect for children.
Best beaches of Hermanus:
Grotto Beach
Stretching from the mouth of the Kleinrivier lagoon and De Plaat, this is definitely a favourite.
De Plaat is renowned as one of the area's best fishing spots and this area is well-equipped in
terms of facilities.
Blue Flag
status is a highly exclusive accreditation given to beaches that meet strict standards and fulfil
the required criteria. Grotto Beach is one of but a few South African beaches to attain such status.
It has been considered a blue-flag beach as of November 2002.
Onrus beach
A beach popular with the surfers, there are decent facilities available as well as a nearby eatery.
The lagoon provides a safe area for children to swim.
Sandbaai beaches
This beach is very popular at low tide, when bathing is relatively safe. It's also popular with divers
and snorkellers, and the little rock pool are full of interesting marine creatures.
Breakfast bay
A great setting for a picnic or a bit of sunbathing, this beach is sheltered but the sand dunes
bordering it.
Kammabaai or Lover's Cove
This is a great spot for surfers with some excellent waves. It also features picnic spots and
braai facilities.
Voëlklip
With both inviting lawns and soft sand, it is very popular with sunbathers. The facilties are
more than adequate, if ageing a bit.
Langbaai
This is a sheltered cove at the base of the Hermanus cliffs. Perhaps the best 'secret' beach
of Hermanus - now that we've told you, we guess it's not really secret anymore...
When it comes to beaches, Hermanus is rich in options. Whether you're after something soft and sandy to soak up the sun's rays, or whether you are looking for a surfing hotspot, a swimming hole or a safe place for the kids to frolic in the water, Hermanus has something to offer you.
